Opus Nigra is a word linked to alchemy; it is the first step to creating the Philosopher's Stone, but the meaning is much deeper. Opus means "work" in Latin, while Nigra comes from the Latin Nigredo, which means "black". In particular, Nigredo represents the phase in which the matter must be decomposed, so that it returns to its primitive stage, that is to the condition of the original chaos from which the whole creation was born: first, it is necessary to destroy the elements, so that can be recomposed later in a higher synthesis. Solve et coagula was the motto of the alchemists, which indicated the operations to be performed, whose dissolution and decomposition necessarily constituted the first inevitable passage. With the psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, the term has become a metaphor to indicate the dark night of the soul, when an individual is led to confront himself with the Shadow within himself. The painful and growing awareness of the subject of its shadow aspects, generally described as a desperate moment, is for Jung a prerequisite for personal development in the path of discovery. The comparison with the Shadow first creates a stasis, a disillusionment, a stop that stops the action and shows the ineffectiveness of their convictions. Only then comes what in philosophy is called enantiodromia, ie reversing the contrary: the Nigredo gives way to the Albedo, where the descent deeper and deeper into the unconscious suddenly changes into a lighting from above. The symbol engraved on the forehead represents the first chakra, which bears the Sanskrit name of Muladhara, or root chakra. It is "the center of the base", it represents the foundations of the whole chakra system and here is the energy of kundalini: only if the base is strong, the energy can rise through the other chakras, just as when it is secured material survival (eating, sleeping, physical health and work) human beings can concentrate on activities such as learning, creating relationships, cultivating spirituality, and so on. Its element is the earth.
